Interviewing an interior designer: Natalia Vysotskaya

1) When and why did you decide to become an interior designer?

About 15 years ago, having already artistic and technical knowledge, I had the desire to combine all my knowledge in one and, the result, was the interior design. The interior designer is an artist, sculptor and architect in one person and also a builder, an engineer, sometimes a foreman. All this is very interesting and difficult, forces a lot to think, create and carries a great responsibility.

2) What does it to take to be a good interior designer?

In my opinion, the designer is a practitioner. The more practice a designer has, the more skill he has. It is very important to have an idea of how to implement this or that approach. The final result of the designer is not what he will draw or create, but what he will embody in reality. They all follow their own path and in the end, become professionals in their field.

3) Which are your influences and inspirations?

I like to travel a lot, choose places with history and an unforgettable architecture, which serves as inspiration. I like to walk through the streets and look at everything: old doors, small balconies, mosaics, flower pots, as well as everything incredible that the new architecture and design offers. Enrich yourself with new visual experiences, characteristics and original solutions.

4) Could you give us some tips to take into account when decorating a house?

Each person, sooner or later, thinks of their own home, where each corner of the room corresponds to the wishes and habits. For some, it is important to have an office to spend more time outside the office. For others, it is more important to have a spacious kitchen, where there would be all the necessary equipment, a large work surface and a guest area. For other people, their priority is the bedroom and a rest area. But the most important thing is to take into account your own necessities, this will help you find the right decision.

5) What style (in interiors) is the trend right now in Ukraine?

Now in Ukraine there are many different trends. There are the classic and neoclassical interiors, loft and minimalism, art deco and provence. Of course, everything depends on the client and his perception of the world. But the main trend is that the design is not for everyone, but for everyone and that is what occupies the minds of Ukrainian designers.

6)How important is decoration for Ukrainian people?

Probably everyone, even the simplest person, feels at peace, when he is surrounded by beautiful things he likes, surrounded by something that gives him a little happiness. The house we love and where we live is this place. Therefore, we all want to make our homes to love them. And the main assistant in this task is the design.

7)How important are tiles in decoration for you?

I will not say anything new about ceramics, but it is indisputably one of the most popular finishing materials, which is still important in interior design. In the right combination with other materials and decoration elements, the tile creates the beauty and comfort of a modern house.

8)What characteristic should a ceramic tile have to cause interest to work
with it from the designers?

For me, the most important thing is that they are of high quality and that they are different products, with creativity.

9)Have you ever used Dune materials for your projects?

If so, why did you choose it? The collections of Dune always tend to be the ones chosen in the creation of my projects. Very often, the main accent in the design was a mosaic, and that variety of collections is not found in any other manufacturer.
